Transport Canada requires mandatory certification for all mariners working on a commercial vessel. A marine medical examination must be performed by a certified Transport Canada physician. FMI has an ongoing association with a TC certified physician. The examination seeks to assess the candidates general health and other medical conditions to determine the physical suitability and fitness level to perform their duties on a commercial seaborne vessel. The candidate will require a Candidate Document Number (CDN) issued by Transport Canada prior to any examination. Upon successful completion of the medical assessment a marine medical certificate and/or letter of support will be provided to the candidate. The examination in part, includes:
- A medical history
- A physical assessment
- An office urine test
- General assessment of hearing and vision and other health parameters
